Faced with the news that our son had been arrested and released on bail while the police investigated two charges; the alleged attempted sexual communication with a child and the alleged attempt to meet a child following sexual grooming, we felt sick with fear and worry. My case was a complex one, and I was facing accusations brought by two women who were sisters, who are articulate professionals and who are now in their 40s. The very fact the matter went to trial reveals that their word was accepted. As a Priest and Scout leader I was at a disadvantage – guilty via those qualifications alone! The accusations were of historic sexual abuse of minors. From the beginning Mark suggested that the unused statements taken by the police would contain evidence useful for my defence. Via the solicitor all the unused material was gained from the CPS but not without a struggle. There was indeed useful material that pointed to my innocence. In his summing up, Mark brought clarity to the accusations and revealed how absurd they were. He outlined the evidence to rebut the accusations. He spoke for 1½ hours and all eyes of the court were fixed upon him. He could have gone on for much longer without losing a single person. He is a master of his trade. Thankfully, I was declared ‘not guilty’ on all eight counts. The result was a miracle brought about through the agency of Mark.
